As the Nigeria Basketball Federation monetary account controversy continues to rage, the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Mallam Musa Kida said he is yet to receive any further refund from the sports ministry after bailing the nation from international embarrassment.
Speaking exclusively to Apexmedia2020.blogspot.com the Borno born super administrator disagrees with naysayers that he converted NBBF board money to his personal account.
"There is no way the sports ministry can pay NBBF if the basketball Federation does not have an account." We have an account with CBN so no funds go into my personal account".
Addressing the issue on how the ministry owed him such a huge amount in dollars, Kida was quick to say that he only helped the nation when the NBBF board and the sports ministry requested for his support in funding the national teams.
"If you can recall, the board of the NBBF and the sports ministry prevailed on me to use my personal money to sort out the national teams when they were in dire need and so I obliged and till now, I have not been fully refunded".
The NBBF President said it was necessary to clarify the circumstances surrounding the donation situation because he has integrity to protect.
"I have still not been refunded the money I spent on the team in 2017, I have also not collected the one they won in Cameroun when you were fighting me and happy to propagate the video of those ladies (he laughed)".
"They have not given me anything to prepare the team for the Olympics. I am sure you were proud that our team defeated the Americans. One dollar I have not gotten from that.
Kida who is also a board member of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) hopes the sports ministry will settle these monetary issues on time before the start of Fiba World Cup.
"The ministry was able to offset part of the expenses when we went to Kigali, yes they gave me some money but not completely".
"The one in Abidjan where we went for the last qualifying window, they have not paid me one kobo, I can't continue like this".
He agreed that sponsorship is the biggest problem militating against progress of the national teams and there is little the board can do without support from spirited individuals and private companies.
