Former international, Garba Lawal has cautioned against undue expectations from the national U-20 currently in Morocco in preparation for the AFCON championship holding in Egypt.
He said the Flying Eagles whom many have tagged as tournament favourites following their successes at the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B junior tournaments may have to work hard to punch their ticket to the world cup.
"It is too early to say anything for now but it is very important to win the first game and the 2nd game before we start to rate the team".
Since the teams won the WAFU competitions and qualified for this year’s African junior championships, many pundits have rated them as world beaters however, Garba Lawal believes that the CHAN championship would a litmus test the team.
"The coach is my personal friend if i observe something on technical issues i call his attention immediately"
Lawal advised Nigerians to temper expectations with caution because it could put the team under pressure.
“Let us wait and see the rest of the teams they will face at the at the Africa Under 20 competition; we cannot just jump into conclusions".
