We need more than a miracle to qualify for the FIBA world Cup, says Col. Sam Ahmedu

By Akinkunle Bolarinwa

Board Member of the Nigeria Basketball Federation and FIBA Zone 3 President, Col. Sam Ahmedu has hinted that Nigeria may likely not make it to the FIBA world due to poor fundings.

Col. Sam Ahmedu, FIBA Zone 3 President,

Col. Sam, stated in clear terms that it will take more than a miracle to see the nation's flag hoisted at the Basketball mundia.

"As it is now, we are in a dangerous group and even if we win all our games and other teams add to theirs points, it might still not count in our favour because of points deficit"

However, the basketball technocrat is still hopeful that the D'tigers could still sneak to the FIBA World Cup through the back door with the best loser spot.

"The only option that we have now is to go to the qualifier with our best hands and hope our opponents do us a favour by surrendering much points because many of them are ahead of us already".

He expressed sadness over the declining fortune of a team that was first to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup the last term.

"We could have consolidated on past efforts but it is unfortunate that a team that qualified first at the previous world cup could be the last to qualify or may not qualify".

NBBF recently released the list of players to be called to camp in abuja starting from on the 12th of February.

States Football Associations Should Adopt the Ekiti FA Model - Dr. Babatunde 'Tee' Akinbinu

Akinkunle Bolarinwa  Executive Board Member of the Ondo State Football Association, Dr. Babatunde 'Tee' Akinbinu has advised State Football Associations Chairmen in Nigeria to borrow the template for football development exemplified by Ekiti State Football Association in the last three and half years. "The reason why Ekiti State FA works and looks so beautiful is because Mr Bayo Lanlege the Ekiti FA chairman threw his hat in the ring and is leading from the front on matters of football development in Ekiti State without any subvention funding from the Government of Ekiti State." The sagacious Sports Physician asserts that Nigeria needs pragmatic leadership to lead the new path for football development.  "It is a huge irony that I am in Ondo and he is in Ekiti, really. If we had 30 State FA Chairmen in Nigeria like Mr Lanlege of the Ekiti State FA, out of the 37 State FA Chairmen we have in Nigeria, we would NOT be talking about bad governance in football admini...
