Seven Reasons Why Jose Peseiro Is Still Being Owed

Akinkunle Bolarinwa

It is no longer news that Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro is being owed 10 months salary, since he assumed duty in Nigeria.

But there are some alleged reports asper why the Portuguese tactician has not received any salary since he was appointed.

The NFF had named Peseiro as Super Eagles’ substantive head coach in December 2021 after sacking of Gernot Rohr. He was however appointed in May 2022.

So it’s been established that Jose Peseiro could not get paid due to the following reasons.

1.  That the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to get funds for the payment of Peseiro's salaries.

2. That the ministry of youth and sports are responsible for paying the Super Eagles coach but they have not done so because they are yet to get any clear response from the NFF.

3. That the ministry asked the NFF to provide the account details of the super Eagles coach to pay directly from source but that has also not materialised.

4. That the NFF is yet to provide the ministry with the account details of the coach as requested after a meeting since last year.

5. Instead of the NFF to provide the ministry with the account details they requested the ministry to pay the coach salary to the football house where they will now forward it to the coach.

6. That the ministry has refused to oblige to the NFF’s request because it didn't follow due process.

7. That the Central Bank of Nigeria can not pay the coach without an approval letter from both the NFF and the sports ministry.

Recall that the Ministry had promised that the Federal Government would take up the payment of experienced foreign coaches after Gernot Rohr was shown the exit door.

States Football Associations Should Adopt the Ekiti FA Model - Dr. Babatunde 'Tee' Akinbinu

Akinkunle Bolarinwa  Executive Board Member of the Ondo State Football Association, Dr. Babatunde 'Tee' Akinbinu has advised State Football Associations Chairmen in Nigeria to borrow the template for football development exemplified by Ekiti State Football Association in the last three and half years. "The reason why Ekiti State FA works and looks so beautiful is because Mr Bayo Lanlege the Ekiti FA chairman threw his hat in the ring and is leading from the front on matters of football development in Ekiti State without any subvention funding from the Government of Ekiti State." The sagacious Sports Physician asserts that Nigeria needs pragmatic leadership to lead the new path for football development.  "It is a huge irony that I am in Ondo and he is in Ekiti, really. If we had 30 State FA Chairmen in Nigeria like Mr Lanlege of the Ekiti State FA, out of the 37 State FA Chairmen we have in Nigeria, we would NOT be talking about bad governance in football admini...
