Sports Minister to Join Industry Experts at World Football Summit in Spain

Nigeria's Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh will on Monday, September 18th, depart the shores of the country for Spain, where he will join industry experts at the World Football Summit, holding between September 20-21, 2023.

The gathering of global football aficionados will take place in Seville, in the Andalusian region of Spain. John Enoh will be participating in the event to further open up Nigeria to better footballing and sporting opportunities, as well as collaborate with other countries in a bid to reposition the sport in the nation.

In the past week, the Minister received Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ignacio Sell, as both nations discussed bilateral collaboration avenues. Spain stands as one of the biggest footballing nations in the world, with the country winning the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and its elite league ranked amongst the top five in europe.

"Nigeria's football heritage is globally known. Our male and female teams, both senior and cadets have shown our heritage over the years in continental and global football showpiece events. We want to continue to build on that trajectory and further position our country to attain its full might in the round leather game," Senator Enoh stated.

"We want to develop football and sports in general, so that it becomes a huge ecosystem with economic value to the country."

World Football Summit is the biggest global platform dedicated to the football industry. Since 2016, WFS has successfully attracted attendees across 17 events and has built a global community of more than 90,000 sports industry executives throughout its platforms. Top names in the industry, including Gianni Infantino, Fatma Samoura, Ronaldo Nazario, Samuel Eto’o, Peter Moore, and Cindy Parlow-Cone have participated, showcasing the event’s significance in the global football landscape.

States Football Associations Should Adopt the Ekiti FA Model - Dr. Babatunde 'Tee' Akinbinu

Akinkunle Bolarinwa  Executive Board Member of the Ondo State Football Association, Dr. Babatunde 'Tee' Akinbinu has advised State Football Associations Chairmen in Nigeria to borrow the template for football development exemplified by Ekiti State Football Association in the last three and half years. "The reason why Ekiti State FA works and looks so beautiful is because Mr Bayo Lanlege the Ekiti FA chairman threw his hat in the ring and is leading from the front on matters of football development in Ekiti State without any subvention funding from the Government of Ekiti State." The sagacious Sports Physician asserts that Nigeria needs pragmatic leadership to lead the new path for football development.  "It is a huge irony that I am in Ondo and he is in Ekiti, really. If we had 30 State FA Chairmen in Nigeria like Mr Lanlege of the Ekiti State FA, out of the 37 State FA Chairmen we have in Nigeria, we would NOT be talking about bad governance in football admini...
