Nigeria's Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh will grace the closing ceremony of the second edition of the West Africa Scrabble Championship which ends in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday 


The head of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) Engineer Toke Aka disclosed this to the WASC media team on Friday, after the end of day two of the championship.


Engr. Aka who doubles as the President Nigeria Scrabble Federation, NSF stressed that the minister has assured to send a representative on his behalf, saying that results from the two days have proven to the testament of Nigeria being the powerhouse of Scrabble in Africa.


"The way it is going, Nigerians are dominating, I don't expect surprises, what we should be asking ourselves is which Nigerian will break the gap and how many non-Nigerians will enter the top 10.


"There is a slight chance that one non-Nigerian might be among the top 10," he added.


He said that the top ten among the 30 players will share a total of $5000 with the first position going home with $2000 while a total of $3000 will be shared among the countries.


At the end of day two, Nigerians dominated the top ten positions while Ghana's Charles Tachie-Menson occupied the thirteenth position.


George Ezinore and Oluwatimilehin Doko are occupying the top spot with 15 wins from 22 games, however Ezinore is ahead of Doko because of higher cumulative points. It's 1243 points for George Ezinore and 774 points Oluwatimilehin Doko while two other players Tega Okiemute and former African Champion Nsikak Etim have 14 wins each while


Moses Peter, Enoch Nwali, Wellington Jighere, John Curtis and Jimoh Abdulmumin are closing marking the front four with 13 wins each while defending champion Eta Karo with 12 wins completes the top ten after Match Day 2.


Anthony Odok, John Aiyedun, Charles Tachie-Menson and Bright Idahosa are the other players with 12 victories each, Richard Sock is the best Gambian after two days of keen competition on 11 from 22 games at number 15th.

 

The final day will witness six rounds of games; one lagged and five kings of the hill rounds to complete the total of 28 rounds of games.


After the completion of the 28th round, the closing ceremony will commence with a red carpet receiption, before the presentation of cash prizes to eventual winners and special recognition awards to those who have contributed to the growth of the scrabble in the sub region.
