 Unilag 500-level undergraduate, Doko leads players' standing after 11 rounds

A 500-level undergraduate of the University of Lagos, UNILAG  Doko Oluwatimileyin is leading the players' standings after eleven rounds at the end of day one of the second edition of the West African Scrabble Championship, WASC on Thursday November, 23 2023.


Doko, who was denied a visa to represent Team Nigeria at the last World Scrabble Championship held in May, 2023, won nine and lost two rounds to garnered a cumulative spread of +738 points to sit at the top of the players standing.


Behind Doko is Odok Anthony, who won eight and three matches with a cumulative spread +586 points to stay in second position.


Nigeria dominance continues as Ezinnore George, Peter Moses, Etim Nsitak, Igbinador Ngero, Wellington Jighere, Okiemute Tega occupy the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eight positions respectively while Ghana's Ubiedi finished on the ten position.


John Curtis, Nwali Enoch, and Ben Quickpen, all of Team Nigeria ended day one on the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth positions while Ghana's Tachie Charles occupied the fourteenth position.  


NIgeria's Oshodi Sunday is in the fifteen position.


Jabang Salifu of The Gambia settled for the sixteenth position, while Nigeria's Karo Eta and Jimoh Abdulmumin are both on the seventeenth and eighteenth positions


 The Gambia's Sock Richard sits on the nineteenth while Aiyedun John, Adeosun Adeyemi, and Idahosa Bright of Team Nigeria are on the 20th, 21th and 22nd position.


Susso Kebba and Hydara Abba of Team The Gambia are currently on the 23rd and 24th positions, while Nigeria's Umujose Emmanuel sits on the 25th position. 


Ghana's Addo George and Amartey Victor occupied both 26th and 27th positions, while Nigeria's Adebola Samuel sit currently on the 28th position.


The Gambia's Omar Malleh on the 29th position while Abdulai Mohammed from Team Ghana sit at the bottom of the standing.


The WASC continues on Friday, November 24, and ends Sunday, November 26, 2023.


Doko, who finished 5th position at the maiden edition held in Ghana, said his target is to perform better than the previous edition.


"I hope to improve on my performance better than last year. I would like to win the tournament obviously, every players that comes to the tournament wants to win," he said.
